Principal Designate appointed for proposed academy in Shoreham
5 February 2009
ULT has announced its intention to appoint Mrs Heidi Brown as the Principal Designate of its proposed academy in Shoreham. Under the proposals, the academy would open in September 2009 and would provide an all-through education for students aged 11-19 in the local community, free of charge.
Mrs Brown became Head Teacher of King’s Manor Community College in 2003 and has been working closely with ULT in taking forward the academy proposal.
Her appointment was made following an extensive national recruitment exercise which attracted a number of high-quality candidates.
Mrs Brown has almost 30 years’ experience in education. Her extensive career began as a teacher of sociology and has included senior roles in schools in Sussex as well as a period teaching in an international school in Zambia.
Announcing Mrs Brown’s appointment, Sir Ewan Harper, Chief Executive of ULT, said:“We are delighted to have appointed Mrs Brown as Principal Designate of the proposed academy. Over the past few years, she has played a key role in raising standards at King’s Manor Community College and we are very much looking forward to working with her to build on the impressive progress that has already been made."
Mrs Brown said:“I am thrilled to have been appointed Principal Designate of the proposed academy. I have worked very closely with the United Learning Trust over the past few months in developing the academy proposal and I am confident that together we can create an academy that the whole community in Shoreham can be proud of.”
