Hull Collegiate Prep School pupils meet the Queen

5 March 2009

28 Reception class children from Hull Collegiate Prep School met the Queen today at the official opening of Castle Hill Hospital Oncology and Haematology Centre. The group of four and five-year-old children had been waiting eagerly to greet the Queen and to give her a special painting which they had made for her.  Appropriately, the painting was of Her Majesty’s favourite dogs – corgis.

Janet Maltby and Mark Dyson, the Reception class teachers who organised the event, escorted the children to Castle Hill Hospital.

Mrs Maltby said: “Two five-year-old pupils, Daisy and Sebastian, presented the painting to the Queen. The Queen even spoke to them and said: ‘Is this for me?’ The children nodded and could speak of nothing else on the way back to school. Two further pupils, four-year-old Jessica and five-year-old Theo, gave the Queen a posy of tulips and daffodils which the Queen accepted with pleasure.

“It has been an honour for our pupils to meet the Queen today and it has helped the pupils understand the role the Monarchy has to play in our lives.”
