Bournemouth Collegiate School celebrates Founders' Day
6 October 2009
Today Bournemouth Collegiate School officially welcomed its pupils and staff. The new school which opened on 1 September was formed through the merger of Wentworth College in Bournemouth and Uplands School in Poole.
To celebrate the opening of the new school, a special Founders’ Day was held during which all pupils and staff were presented with Foundation Certificates. These marked their unique position as the founding pupils and staff of Bournemouth Collegiate School. There were more than 50 special guests including the Mayor and Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Bournemouth and the High Sheriff of Dorset as well as representatives from the United Church Schools Trust (UCST) which owns and manages the school.
Mr Stephen Duckitt, Principal of Bournemouth Collegiate School, said: “Our school comes from a long tradition of education in south Dorset but our vision is entirely forward-looking and we are determined to break the mould and do things differently. With the backing of UCST, the focus will be on high-quality teaching and learning and we will aim to bring out the best in everyone.
Charlotte Rendle-Short, Deputy Chief Executive of UCST, said: “We are delighted to welcome all the pupils and staff into the UCST family. Whilst the school has only been open a month, there is already a shared sense of identity amongst all pupils and staff and I look forward to seeing the whole school flourish.”
