Northampton Academy celebrates a watershed in GCSE results
27 August 2009
Five years after opening, the first cohort of students who have attended ULT’s Northampton Academy since Year 7 are today celebrating their GCSE results. The results – 40% of students achieving five or more A* to C including English and maths – represent a watershed year for the academy.
These are the academy’s best ever GCSE results and follow last week’s impressive A Level results when 37.9% of academy students achieved A or B grades.
The Rt Revd Peter Hullah, Principal of the academy, said: “We are absolutely delighted with these results. Staff and students have worked incredibly hard over the past year and these results are a fitting reward. Our five or more A*-C including English and maths is not only a 50% increase on last year’s results, it also takes the academy well above the National Challenge target.”
Charlotte Rendle-Short, Deputy Chief Executive of ULT, which sponsors the academy, said: “I would like to congratulate Peter Hullah, his colleagues and students on these excellent results. Across the country ULT academies are beginning to unlock the potential of a generation of students. There is no easy fix; it comes down to hard work, dedication and a strong commitment to teaching and learning. Alongside last week’s impressive A Level results, Northampton Academy is making great strides forwards to becoming an outstanding school at the heart of its community.”
