Rowan Preparatory School joins the UCST family
17 December 2009
The United Church Schools Trust (UCST) has announced that Rowan Preparatory School is to join its family of independent schools.
Rowan Preparatory School is an independent school for girls aged between 2 and 11 years, based on two sites at Rowan Brae and Rowan Hill in Claygate. Its most recent ISI inspection described the school as “outstanding in achieving its aim of providing excellent quality education in a warm, caring, supportive atmosphere, in which all girls can achieve whatever their ability.”
The governing bodies of both Rowan and UCST have arrived at today’s decision unanimously and see this as an exciting and promising opportunity to support Rowan in its continued achievement.
Rowan has enjoyed a long relationship with UCST, sending many of its pupils to both Surbiton and Guildford High Schools. In becoming part of UCST, Rowan will retain its own name, character and independence and remain free to send its pupils to the full range of schools it currently feeds. All existing bursaries will be honoured and fees will remain unchanged until September 2010, when they will be reviewed as usual.
By joining UCST, Rowan pupils and staff will be able to take full advantage of UCST’s resources and facilities. For pupils, this will include new sports facilities, which are planned for the site adjacent to Rowan at Oaken Lane and will be shared by Rowan and Surbiton Schools upon completion. For staff, this includes extensive training opportunities and access to the UCST intranet, which contains thousands of teaching materials and resources.
Sir Ewan Harper, Chief Executive of UCST, said: “Rowan is an outstanding school that shares our ethos and mission of bringing out the best in everyone and we are delighted that they are joining our family of schools. We look forward to working with parents, pupils and staff in taking Rowan Preparatory School into its future.”
Alastair Spencer, Chairman of Governors at Rowan Preparatory School, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity. Being part of UCST will first and foremost give us greater opportunities for our girls. We will maintain our name, ethos and identity, but this is the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in the history of Rowan.”
