Guildford High School scales new academic heights

15 January 2010

Pupils and staff at Guildford High School were celebrating this week on hearing the news that they were the fourth highest performing school in the country in the Government’s A Level League Tables.

Guildford High School is a member of the United Church Schools Trust (UCST) which runs ten independent fee-paying schools and, through the United Learning Trust (ULT), operates 17 academies across the country.

Fiona Boulton, Principal of Guildford High School, said: “I am delighted for my staff and girls whose combined performance is recognised in these tables.  Building a successful school is, in reality, far more than league table performance.  It is about taking the potential you see in each child and letting it prosper through encouragement, strong teaching and a long-established culture of success.  The role that parents play in this cannot be over-estimated; in giving their daughters the respect and love for learning which a Guildford High School education can develop into a well-rounded, happy young adult.”

Sir Ewan Harper, Chief Executive of UCST, said: “To be in the top four schools in the country is exceptional and is testament to the commitment, hard work and ethos displayed by everyone at Guildford High School.  As a group of schools and academies we have an aim of bringing out the best in everyone.  What is so important about Guildford High School is that Fiona Boulton and her team combine both academic excellence and the personal and cultural development of every girl in the School.”
