Kettering Buccleuch Academy's successful Ofsted monitoring inspection
12 January 2011
Staff and students at Kettering Buccleuch Academy have begun the new year with a successful Ofsted inspection, four terms after opening.
Just before Christmas, the academy received its first Ofsted monitoring visit. The inspectors found a great deal of improvement underway at the academy and commented favourably about the commitment, hard work and behaviour of its students.
The report also highlights the strengths of the Senior Leadership Team and staff at the academy over the past year.
In particular, the report concludes:
-
The academy’s capacity to improve is satisfactory and is increasing steadily.
-
Standards are rising steadily across all key stages and the academy is on track to be significantly closer to national averages at GCSEs this year.
-
There is a very clear drive for improvement across the academy and the Principal provides very strong leadership.
-
Attendance rates have improved and students are taking advantage of a range of opportunities to make a positive contribution across the academy.
-
Across the academy there are very positive relationships between adults and students who respond well to its ethos and expectations to maintain high standards in appearance, behaviour and attitudes.
Mr Iain Denning, Principal of Kettering Buccleuch Academy, welcomed the report. He said: “This is both heartening and encouraging. It recognises the progress that we have made at the academy over the past year and illustrates our potential for the future. Everyone here works hard and is committed to making the academy the first choice for local parents. This report shows that we’re on our way to achieving that.
“Later this year, construction begins on our fantastic new buildings and there is a feeling of real optimism and drive across the academy.”
Sir Ewan Harper, Chief Executive of the United Learning Trust and Chairman of the academy’s Local Governing Body, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff and students on behalf of the Local Governing Body and the United Learning Trust and congratulate them on the positive start the academy has made.”
