British Schoolboy Scales Everest

The youngest Brit to ever scale Everest is an inspiration to fellow students at Surbiton High School.

George Atkinson, a former student at Surbiton High School Community and Prep school scaled Everest this morning at the age of 16 years, 362 days old.

Turning 17 on Sunday, George reached the 8,848m summit at 2am this morning - making him the youngest ever Briton to stand on top of the world.

George, who scaled Kilimanjaro when he was just 11, spent six weeks making his way up Everest as part of a 13-man team.

If that wasn’t achievement enough -George now also holds the world record for the youngest person to have completed the Seven Summits.

Ann Haydon, Principal at Surbiton High School said: “On behalf of the Surbiton High School community and especially the Prep School , I send our congratulations to George .”
George is an inspiration to us all and I hope to have the opportunity to meet him one day.”
