The Mayor of Lambeth inspires Academy students to Get Set for the 2012 Games

13 February 2012

On 8th February the Mayor of Lambeth came into Lambeth Academy to officially unveil their Get Set 2012 Olympic Plaque. Lambeth Academy are very proud members of the Get Set Network and wanted to celebrate this with the Mayor, especially as they had just received the great news that Lambeth Academy students will receive 130 tickets for the Olympic Games 2012.
In her speech Madam Mayor addressed the students as her equals and motivated them to always aim high in life. She told them that as much as the Olympics are in reach for aspiring sports people, her job as Mayor is also in reach for any young person and maybe one of them would become one of the next Mayors of Lambeth. The Mayor shared her own background with the students and talked about the sheer determination which brought her to where she is now. She then invited the students to the Mayor’s Parlour in order for them to see for themselves where they might one day sit.
The students welcomed her encouraging words and the ceremony ended with a general discussion of the Olympic and Paralympic values.
